Chez Henri has been host to some of Boston's favorite bartenders, and bar manager Rob Kraemer is no exception. An experienced player in the city's hospitality scene, Rob got his start in 1994 as a cook at Jake and Earl's, Chris Schlesinger's predecessor to East Coast Grill in Inman Square. Rob joined Chez Henri as a busser in 1997. He moved through the ranks as food runner, host, and waiter before leaving to explore the day-job life working for his hometown newspaper in Needham and a PR agency.
The excitement of the restaurant scene soon lured Rob back, and he spent a year at Tremont 647 in the South End before returning to Chez Henri where he became friends with bartender Dylan Black. When Dylan opened Green Street Grill in 2005, he offered to teach Rob the basics of tending bar. It was behind the bar at Green Street, under the tutelage of renowned Boston bartenders Dylan, Misty Kalkofin, and Chez Henri alum Joe McGuirk that Rob learned the art of the classic cocktail.
Rob returned to Chez Henri as Bar Manager in 2006, where he continues to find new sides to a familiar place. Since then he has seen several of his cocktails featured in noted publications like the Boston Globe, was voted an Improper Bostonian Beloved Bartender in 2008, and been called a "good mixologist and a gentleman" by Drink Boston's Lauren Clark.
Rob is grateful for the push that Dylan Black gave him, and to Paul O'Connell for keeping his restaurant a second family to its employees. When he's not behind the bar at Chez Henri, Rob enjoys spending time with his wife Sheila, their son Rory, and dog Toshi, as well as rooting for his favorite team at the occasional Celtics game at the Garden.
